Thanksgiving indeed

A year after DPReview moved to Seattle from our London office we have all settled in. The initial adjustment phase is over, new American team members have joined in and overall we are now a truly international team. While most had plans for one of the biggest holidays here, my British manager decided to host the Thanksgiving dinner for the rest of us. I joined the Joinsons along with Barney, Scott and Amadou.

As we were supposed to get sides, I cooked a traditional sweet potato and marshmallow casserole following this recipe. It felt more like a dessert because of the marshmallows and added sugar. But turkey goes well with a sweetish side so this does compliment the roasted bird very well.

The take-along sweet potato and marshmallow casserole which was quite yum!
It was nice of Scott and Amadou to join us for our first Thanksgiving, telling us more about the traditions and pointing out differences between American Thanksgiving and British Christmas. There was lots and lots and lots of food. Claire even forgot to get some sides that were warming up in the oven! Simon had made sure we had roast potatoes and gravy that are traditional in British roast dinners. I have to take his recipe for roast potatoes. The best ones I have had so far.

The responsibility for the star of the show was upon Scott. He of course had to depend on technology before cutting the first slice of the blessed bird. After YouTubing the technique, he decided to test his skills and did a fine job.

In the excitement of eating, I forgot to click a picture of all the food  when it was all on the table. So here is one after. Yes there was lots of leftovers. Thanksgiving is all about leftovers. :D
Amadou's son Rajiv had made this beautiful gingerbread house. We also had lots of fun with the other kids. Of course Naima still didn't come near me. Someday she will :) It was nice to see Lola walking for the first time. Overall a lovely time.

I hope those of you who celebrated Thanksgiving had a lovely one as well. Overall a great Thanksgiving weekend.
