Exploring Italian wines

I love my wines. Especially on Friday evenings after a long week at work. I wasn't much of a wine drinker in India. Maybe I hadn't really graduated from the cheap Goa port wines obsession. But from the last few years I have developed a love for wines over other alcoholic drinks.

So recently a friend of mine who is a part of an Italian Wine Club made me learn about wines. Especially about Feudi di San Gregorio wines.

Feudi di San Gregorio 2001 Aglianico del Vulture Efesto is a red wine from Italy. In wine words it is "100% Aglianico from a cluster of vineyards near the villages of Barile, Rionero in Vulture, and Rampolla, all located at approximately 1,500 feet above sea level on the lower slopes of the Vulture mountain in Basilicata."

The gorgeous wine is aged for 14 months in oak cases prior to bottling. "Rich ruby red in color, the wine with underlying hints of balsamic, mint, and eucalyptus."

The other wine is Feudi di San Gregorio 2002 Primitivo di Manduria di Ognissole from Manduria in Italy that produces the finest quality Primitivo grapes in Italy.

"This wine is aged for 15 months in new oak casks prior to bottling. Deep ruby red with violet reflections, the bouquet is complex and powerful with spicy hints of clove and black pepper with woodsy undertones and suggestions of wild cherry and prune."

Both the wines are served at cool room temperature . As most red wines, this goes well with red meats. Also really yummy when teamed up with richly flavored pastas and risottos, winter stews and of course cheese!

I haven't yet developed that kind of taste buds to understand underlying flavors but it is interesting to study wine. I am definitely thinking of going for these wine tasting clubs. One should know their alcohol!
